Muskau's ancient oak trees in watercolors by Inka Lumer
The exhibition offers an extraordinary journey beyond space and time:
A total of thirty watercolors depict all of the ancient Muskau oaks known to date, whether still standing, already dead, or completely lost, each in its most beautiful splendor. The portraits, created in 2024/25, are based on current photos and historical views, which helped to reconstruct the former abundance and diversity of these unique tree personalities and bring them to life on paper in a stylistically uniform form. As they view the pictures, visitors to the exhibition imperceptibly shift between centuries and experience, as Pückler once did, the mystical aura of these centuries-old witnesses to history, which inspired the prince to give them special names and design unique park scenes. Short accompanying texts explain the intellectual journey and the individual biography of each oak tree.
